Last night at a glittering ceremony in London the annual ISPA Awards winners were announced and I’m delighted to say that Entanet took the crown in the Best Internet Telephony category for our high quality VoIP services and flexible options.
I’d also like to congratulate Professor Ian Hargreaves, who was awarded the title of “Internet Hero” for his review of the UK’s intellectual property laws and his recommendations on amending these laws to better suite a digital era. We previously covered Professor Hargreaves’ work in our article, ‘Professor Hargreaves restores the balance’. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to attend the ceremony.
Similarly, the winner of the Internet Villain category was also unable to attend, much to the dismay of many of the ISPs in attendance I’m sure. This award went to the very worthy (and noteworthy) Andrew Crossley of ACS:Law, who demanded payments from Internet users for alleged copyright infringement with very little evidence and in a threatening manner. This award surely tops off the perfect year for Crossley who has been made bankrupt, been investigated by the SRA (Solicitors Regulatory Authority) and fined a pitiful £800 by the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) due to his supposed ‘limited means’. He continues to infuriate those affected by maintaining his life of luxury as he drives around in his £200k Bentley and lives in his £700k mansion (ISPReview.co.uk: ACSLaw UK Boss of Limited Means Found Living in a Mansion and Driving a Bentley). Hardly limited means! Perhaps he didn’t attend the ceremony because he couldn’t afford a ticket!
